Can an American muscle classic beat a new electric vehicle? Is it a question even worth asking let alone answering? Apparently, BMW thinks so.
Their new commercial pits the “sport” 2018 BMW i3 against a 1969 Dodge Charger. Watch the video below.
This isn’t the first time an automaker has compared a new release against classics. Skoda did the same recently and compared their Superb 280 wagon to super-cars from the 70s – ’90s. No one is surprised by the results so what exactly is the point these companies are trying to make? After all, it’s not as if BMW was pitting their i3 against a same year vehicle like the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Widebody Hellcat.
If anything the commercial backfires on this audience of one. It highlights the inherent and timeless brawn and beauty of the Challenger while doing nothing to make the new 2018 i3 any more appealing. Given a choice between a modern mini or a heavy muscle beast, we will opt for the latter each and every time. How about you: Classic Cool or Modern Meh?
