The name may be long and lacking in creativity, but it is certainly apt and descriptive of the latest addition to the growing Dodge Challenger model lineup.
Enter the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody
This new release will feature the same muscularized fender flares of the 840 horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Demon while under the hood we’ll find the 707 hp supercharged V8 drivetrain of the Challenger Hellcat to bring even better performance out of this already formidable muscle car.
In 2015, the Hellcat arrived with a body style mostly identical to the base V6 Challengers. For many, the biggest issue was the waste of power due to a lack of wheel base.
Dodge solves this complaint with the release of the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. It features a decidedly wider 3.5-inches stance than the original Hellcat, which lets Dodge increase the tire width from 275 mm to 305 mm – over an inch in total.
Dodge states this increase in traction will bring the Hellcat’s already impressive quarter-mile acceleration from 11.2 to 10.9 seconds. Additionally, the lateral grip goes from .93 g to .97 g, giving it the traction necessary to complete Chrysler’s 1.7-mile-long test track no less than two seconds faster than the Hellcat. Of course, with thickness comes a sacrifice in the car’s ability to cut through the atmosphere bringing its topline speed from 199 mph to 195 mph. Worth the tradeoff? You’ll have to decide when the Widebody is on the street.
According to sources, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody starts at $72,590 – more than seven grand above the standard Hellcat. Dealers will begin taking orders next month. Line forms to the left.
