Ford Motors issued a safety recall affecting over 400,000 vehicles in North America. The recall centers on a defective driveshaft that may result in loss of power while driving or unexpected movement when parked.
The recall pertains to Ford Transit vans and chassis cabs manufactured at the company’s Kansas City Assembly Plant located in Missouri from 2015 to 2017.
In the statement released by Ford, the company noted that they were unaware of any accidents or injuries caused by the issue.
According to reports, a cracked coupling may result in the driveshaft separating which may cause damage to other parts of the vehicle located near the driveshaft, including brakes and fuel lines.
Ford does not have a permanent fix for this issue and has advises all owners with a vehicle that has 30,000 or more miles to bring them to a dealership to provide repair. This will need to be repeated every 30,000 miles until the company can provide a permanent solution.
Based on an SEC filing submitted on Wednesday, Ford expects the repairs to cost the company up to $142 million with 370,630 vehicles in the United States affected.
All owners will receive notification by mail; however, the company recommends bringing vehicles in immediately. There will be no cost for the repair.
