The future is looking bright for truck fans in the U.S. as Ford recently announced their intention to bring the 2019 Ford Ranger back to the U.S. market. Details are still few and far between but we’ve pulled together some information you’re sure to be interested in if you’re a fan of this model from Ford.
The company plans to bring the venerable Ranger back to market in 2019 to fill the gap in their lineup beneath their ever-popular F-150. The goal is for the returning 2019 Ford Ranger to take on (and beat) trucks like the Chevy Colorado, Toyota Tacoma and others of their ilk.
Ford confirmed the truck will be set on a body-on-frame platform and not much else. Despite their tight lips when it comes to the future Ranger, industry sources are offering some additional intel.
One current tidbit is that Ford will be offering the model with several different engine options, including their 2.5-liter four-cylinder that is naturally aspirated and delivers more than 175 hp with 175 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, we’re hearing the lineup will includea 3.3-liter V6 engine which is pulled from the 2018 F-150. This engine delivers 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Info is also suggesting there may be a third engine as a diesel or EcoBoost variant.
Despite being a smaller truck, expect the 2019 Ford Ranger to have some towing muscle to flex if it wants to compete in its division. The 2017 Chevrolet Colorado V-6 can tow 7,000 pounds while the 2017 Tacoma V-6 is rated at 6,800 pounds.
We’re also hearing the 2019 Ford Ranger will be available in both SuperCab and SuperCrew configurations with the Ranger priced in the low $20s. Right now, this is mostly speculative and we’ll update you as more details emerge and specifics are confirmed by Ford.
