Subaru Breaks Sales Record While U.S. Automakers Struggle In 2017

Subaru Sets New Sales Record In August

Subaru set a record sales month with 63,177 units sold in December. That record didn’t last long as the company raised the bar again in August with 63,215 units sold.

How has Subaru managed to increase sales while their competition lags and falls in 2017? There are several factors that have been key to Subaru’s impressive performance.

The company used a balanced approach with their fleet, driving sales with both new and older models. The newly launched 2018 Subaru Crosstrek had its best month with 12,823 sales (46%+) while the Outback climbed to 20,000 sales while entering its fourth model year.

Given the overall auto industry conditions, these sales results point to the continued strength of the Subaru brand.”

Tom Doll, Subaru of America President

August marked the eighth consecutive month of decline for the U.S. auto market with drops over last years volume reported by Acura, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, and Smart.

Subaru’s performance is not  all that surprising. The company hasn’t reported a decline in U.S. sales since November 2011.

With a lineup of vehicles consisting of a market sports car, a compact sedan/hatch, a midsize sedan, a subcompact crossover competitor, a compact utility vehicle, and the Outback, the company is beating Volkswagen by almost 2-1 in sales and Mazda by a margin of 6-1.

Expect more nerves at U.S. auto makers to be shaken with the arrival of the 2019 Subaru Ascent.
