The 2017 Trans Am 455 Super Duty Is A Demon Slayer
Boasting 840 horsepower, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon has been shaking the moorings of the internet for months, but it’s another American muscle car that is the real earth shaker. Introduces at the 2017 New York auto show, Trans Am Worldwide, revealed their 1,000 HP Trans Am 455 Super Duty. Production will be limited to 50.
While earlier Trans Am Worldwide cars are built off of the fifth-generation Camaro and GM’s Zeta chassis, the 2017 model is built around the new-gen Camaro with a lighter Alpha chassis. Under the hood, the Trans Am 455 Super Duty is powered by a 455-cubic-inch Generation V LT1 V-8 engine with a Magnuson TVS2300 supercharger to deliver 14 psi of boost — 0.5 psi less than the Challenger SRT Demon. To push the 455 to 1,000 HP, is a cold air intake and ceramic coated headers plus 3.0-inch exhaust which delivers 1,046 lb-ft of torque, — 160 hp more than the Demon on racing-level gas.
It’s rumored the engine design comes courtesy of a collaboration with Arrington Performance – a premier NASCAR engine builder owned by NASCAR racer and team owner Joey Arrington.
The Trans Am 455 Super Duty is styled directly off the classic Pontiacs from the 70s with updated lines as well as technology and materials. It features carbon fiber body panels and redesigned custom fascia grilles and the iconic “screaming chicken” hood decal.
“The new model is a complete redesign that features sleek body lines with masculine proportions and traditional retro styling,” said Tod Warmack, co-founder of Trans Am Worldwide, in a release. “We are also offering optional glass T-tops this year but perhaps the most notable element of this historical accomplishment is that we now join the ranks of an exclusive few who offer a 1,000-hp performance package in a production vehicle.”

The car has been lowered by an inch from its standard Camaro stance with meaty 305/35R20 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires out back. Optional Brembo six-piston front brakes provide plenty of stopping power to bring the land missile to a halt, measuring in at 15.0 inches x 1.3 inches in the front and 15.0 inches x 1.1 inches in the rear. It looks every bit of 1,000 horsepower, and we couldn’t dig it more.
Inside you’ll find a Trans Am Super Duty shifter handle with vintage climate vents and custom leather seating with “455” embroidered head rests and an “SD” embroidered seat back, embroidered floor mats, painted door panels, custom gauge cluster, and painted door sills.
