2018 Toyota 4Runner Release Date

2018 Toyota 4Runner

To date, the Toyota 4Runner has been considered one of the best crossover vehicles available, offering casual drivers a somewhat comfortable drive while delivering strong off-road performance. With competitors moving to a uni-body chassis, rumors started to float around the web that the 2018 Toyota may join this group. While we don’t know what future model changes for the 4Runner may be, for the time being — and at least in the case of the 2018 update — the 4Runner will remain a body-on-frame construction.

Unchanged since the 2014 updated that brought the 4Runner into closer alignment with the Tacoma, we are anticipating the 2018 model update to follow the same trajectory. Since this will be a carryover year, we are not expecting significant changes to the look of this body-on-frame SUV which should please old and new fans alike as the 4Runner has long held appeal in auto-enthusiast circles for its modern and unique look.

Similarly, the interior cabin will be updated with only minor adjustments to keep the overall modern but rugged style with ample space and roominess we’ve grown to appreciate. So what should you expect? Cloth upholstery, keyless entry, both five-volt and AC power outlets, a decent Entune audio system and a decent sized touchscreen and multitude of cup holders.

As for under the hood? We will probably see the 4.0-liter V6 engine currently in production which delivers 270 HP and 278 pound-feet of torque and is mated with a five-speed automatic transmission with standard rear-while drive or optional four-wheel.

Toyota 4Runner Safety

In four out of five crash-test categories the IIHS gave the 4Runner a “good” rating but only
moderate in the small-overlap test. The 4Runner doesn’t include automatic emergency braking – despite other Toyota models having this feature. But the 4Runner does have a rearview mirror and you can opt for front and rear parking assist sonar.

Toyota 4Runner Pricing & Release Date

Production for the vehicle should begin in August of this year with a sale date in November 2017.

Look for Toyota to offer low APR financing or a modest cashback incentive at the very end of the model year.

Official 2018 4Runner pricing is not available yet. That being said, we expect pricing to run similar to current year models as there are few changes to the model. 2017 4Runners start at $35,150 and go as high as $45,500

In this range, the 4Runner’s competitors include the Dodge Durango, the Nissan Pathfinder and Jeep’s Grand Cherokee.
