The 2018 BMW M5 has modern motorists chomping at the bit to get their hands on the reins to see if this beast is another category killer.
BMW proudly unveiled their latest version of the M5 sports sedan and demonstrated it as both the fastest and most advanced technologically in the history of the model – further cementing its domination in the performance sports sedan market.
This will be the sixth generation of BMW M5 to grace the motorways both in Munich and the U.S.
Under the sculpted hood, drivers will find a powerful 4.4 liter, twin-turbocharged V8 delivering a staggering amount of power – listed at 600hp and controlled by an eight-speed automatic transmission to power BMW’s newest all-wheel-drive system dubbed M xDrive.
This new system is designed to deliver the majority of engine power to the rear wheels and adjusting distribution to the front tires when needed for traction; for purists looking to push their drifting the M xDrive can be switched to a 2WD mode to ensure all the available power is delivered to the rear wheels and only the rear wheels.
“Thanks to M xDrive, the all-new BMW M5 can be piloted with the familiar blend of sportiness and unerring accuracy both on the racetrack and out on the open road, while also delighting drivers with its significantly enhanced directional stability and controllability right up to the limits of performance when driving in adverse conditions such as on wet roads or snow.” – BMW M Chairman Frank van Meel
Stated to be capable of doing 0 – 60mph in a respectable 3.2 seconds, the M5’s top speed will be governed to only hit 155 unless you opt for the M Driver’s Package which lets owners top off just south of 190mph.
Maintaining the M5 design aesthetic of understated ferocity, this generation features some redesigned elements to lend a more muscular look to the chassis without sacrificing its air-slicing capabilities. BMW redesigned the rear diffuser and spoiler along with the side skirts. The air intakes are enlarged to improve cooling and aluminum alloy and carbon-reinforced plastic are in place to keep the car’s weight balanced.
The interior of the M5 gives driver’s improved technology including the HUD (heads-up-display), several driving modes and gesture controls.
Pricing has not been released yet, so we’ll update as more is available. Expect the 2018 BMW M5 in showrooms Spring 2018.
