With more and more American drivers choosing a crossover/SUV as their primary vehicle of choice, automakers have taken note and are working to bring more and better options to market. Volkswagen is still working to recover from their much publicized fall-from-grace and are using the new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan to once again break into and become a major player in the U.S. auto market.
Unlike the Volkswagen Golf, the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan doesn’t handle quite as crisply which isn’t much of a surprise considering its ample size. And while dwarfed by other SUVs and crossovers, the Tiguan still manages to deliver a solid performance with decent interior space for a small family – especially considering the recent addition of a much appreciated third row of seats.
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan now includes third-row seats standard in the front-wheel-drive editions but the all-wheel drive version will mean buyers have to pay for the optional third row.
The 2018 Tiguan has a curb weight range from 3,730 pounds to 4,043 pounds and features a Budack-cycle turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine married to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It’s won’t blow you away, but is suitable for a compact SUV.
Inside, you’ll find a nicely appointed cabin with a touchscreen interface comes standard in all models and an underwhelming six-speaker audio system. It’s recommended you opt for Fender’s nine-speaker setup (or your own aftermarket choice) if you are any sort of audiophile to avoid disappointment with your acoustic environment.
Wondering why you should consider the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan when there are so many other options in the SUV space? You may want to think about VW’s enticing warranty. Part of the company’s earnest effort to win back U.S. fans, the 2018 Tiguan comes with a six-years or 72,000 mile warranty that is fully transferable and should greatly help with keeping resale values high for those that choose to Volkswagen.
